Two Weeks at General Assembly

Lopez-GA.jpgMy first week in the full-stack web development course has proven to be challenging to the core. Before class started I expected WDI (Web Development Immersive) to be an information apocalypse. In my first 3 days, I thought it was going slow due to the course pre-work. On the 4th day, I was officially on information overload. The code I initially thought was easy has become much more difficult after diving into it in more depth. I’m definitely feeling the high’s of "Ah-ha!” moments and the lows of ”I have no clue what I'm doing but it works” or ”I have no clue what I’m doing and it’s not working”. After going more in depth, I can pick apart code and start fixing bugs in the console. We have touched upon Javascript, Github, terminal, and CSS/HTML. I’m learning things ranging from functions to wire-framing. The week ended with group JavaScript challenges and a really fun “Rock, Paper, Scissors” project. My biggest challenge and sweetest success thus far has been tackling the terminal. Working in the terminal has made me feel like I’ve entered the Matrix! This is a huge leap from viewing the terminal as something boring and unimportant. After the first two weeks of GA, I’ve grown so much in terms of programming skills! I can’t wait to see how much more I’ll learn on my 4th week.
